Who I am
My name is Federico Bellanti and I am a professional who loves financial markets with now three decades of experience.
Over the course of my professional history I have held various positions, some of great responsibility, with banking institutions of primary global standing. My most recent experience saw me as Head of Markets and Treasurer for HSBC bank in Bermuda, a position I held for more than five years.
The aspect that I find most motivating in my work is the possibility of making my experience available to companies and financial institutions to help them understand and manage the complexity and risks that characterize financial markets, be they currency markets , interest rates or commodities.
And then, as my Professor at University used to say (that was few years ago...), "Finance keeps us young". I would add: "Managing risks correctly also keeps us in good spirits."
My story in 30 seconds
I graduated from La Sapienza University, with 110/110 cum laude, with a thesis entitled "Strategic Management of Foreign Exchange Risk".
In 1993 I began my career at Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura, as a Foreign Exchange Trader: these were the years of extreme volatility of the Lira, before there even started to be talk of a possible membership of the Euro.
In 1996 I joined HSBC, and for five years I was responsible for developing the emerging markets currency distribution in Italy, creating a large network among the main Italian banks.
In 2002, for HSBC I took the responsibility for the sale of markets product to Corporate clients, i.e. large and medium-sized Italian companies with various market risk management needs (FX, rates, commodities). It is the activity to which I have dedicated the most time, sixteen years, during which I have had the fortune and privilege of dealing with the typical problems of complex and advanced corporate treasuries, moreover in a period of time that has seen a very rapid evolution of products, regulations and trading systems.
Starting from 2018 I accept a new position as Head of the Markets area and member of the Executive Committee for HSBC in Bermuda, a position I held until March 2023: an enlightening experience for the wealth of knowledge acquired and for the contribution I gave to turn it into a mature, resilient and technologically advanced business.

When and why choose me
The business consultancy panorama is wide and varied, with excellent professionals and organizations capable of giving concrete and accurate answers to many business problems in matters related to finance.
My proposition is much more "niche": I do not deal with facilitating the obtaining of financing, structuring Debt or Equity Capital Market transactions, nor with aspects related to taxation.
I simply wouldn't have the skills.
Where I feel I can offer authoritative opinions is in the management of market risks and in the aspects connected to it: it is the activity that I have conducted for decades, both directly (in the management of a bank's treasury) and indirectly as responsible for the structuring and sale of various types of derivatives to companies and financial institutions.
My background is therefore not that of a consultant, but of someone who has so far conducted FX, interest rate and commodity risk management operations in real life.
It is the background of those who have used the techniques, information systems and experienced the adrenaline of the "Trading Rooms" of primary global players in the financial markets for years.
It is the background of someone who has accompanied large, medium and small companies in the structuring and execution of sometimes complex risk hedging transactions, often linked to emerging markets, sometimes for very long durations and always in full compliance with applicable regulations.
In these circumstances I can be at your side to face the challenges together.
